Storm Lake, Iowa

A Trump 2020 sign-wielding protestor was arrested Saturday afternoon after attempting to assault people attending a presidential campaign event in Storm Lake for U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat.

Randal James Thom, 58, of Lakefield, Minnesota, shouted questions and insults related to immigration and the government shutdown at Warren as she finished remarks outside Our Place, 110 East 3rd Street, around 1 p.m.

When an audience member knocked down Thom’s sign promoting President Donald Trump, Thom started swinging a stick at people.

Thom was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail where he was charged by the Storm Lake Police Department with disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor. A Storm Lake Police Department news release also noted that Thom “reportedly became aggressive and attempted to assault others in the crowd.” Thom was held on a $300 bond.

No injuries were reported. About 300 people attended the event.
